5 Reasons Why You Must Have This Canon Lens

Price is what you pay. Value is what you get. – Warren Buffett

Whether you are just getting into photography or you are a more seasoned photographer, I really think you will love this lens. I am talking about the Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II. It’s a pretty basic lens, but in my opinion, it’s Canon’s best value lens.

Here are 5 reasons why I think you should add this lens to your arsenal.

1. It’s fast

At 1.8 aperture, this lens is a great performer, especially in low light. This means that you can shoot at shutter speeds that allow handholding; no flash or tripod, no problem.

2. It’s sharp

All my other lenses are Canon L series and their sharpness is unbeatable in my opinion. While this lens doesn’t really come close to an L lens, I can still say that it’s surprisingly sharp, even sharper than any other non-L Canon or Sigma lenses that I have tried (and sold shortly after).

3. It’s buttery

The large aperture of this lens will melt your background like butter. This is pretty impressive, considering that the lens has only 5 non-rounded aperture blades. The photo above was one of my first pictures taken with this lens and I was pleasantly surprised by the great bokeh. And no, I did not empty those bottles alone.

4. It’s light

This is always an added bonus considering how heavy some of the L lenses are. It’s also small and fits well in the camera bag.

5. It’s inexpensive

The price is what makes this lens a great value. Yes, it’s made of plastic and it feels pretty cheap, but this should not stop you from adding this great lens to your collection if you haven’t already. Even though focusing is a little noisy, it will be the best one hundred dollars you’ve ever spent.
